Nikon has unveiled  the new 24.1-megapixel D7100 DSLR, which is the successor to the Nikon D7000. The new D7100 from Nikon features a completely new design compared to all the previous DSLR’s from Nikon.
The D7100 features the newly developed 24.1MP APS-C format sensor, which we saw earlier in the Nikon D5200 as well. The new DSLR also gets a better Expeed 3 image processing engine, which is found in Nikon’s top-of-the line full-frame DSLR’s and allows 6 frames-per-second (fps) shooting in any mode.
One of the most important upgrade that the D7100 brings over the D7000 is that it features a 51-point autofocus system with 15 cross-type sensors in the middle. Also, the Nikon D7100 features an ISO range of 100 to 6400, which can be pushed to 25600 (Hi 2 extension).
Interestingly, the new Nikon D7100 drops the Optical low pas filter, which Nikon claims is due to the higher pixel density within the new sensor. Though this would result in more detailed and sharper images, but it also brings-in the risk of generating moire in some conditions, but Nikon believes that it shouldn’t be that big a concern.
Just like the D7000, the Nikon D7100 too, features dual SD card slot meaning that the users would be able to use one SD card for images and the other for video. The D7100 also features a set of stereo microphones and a bigger, 3.2-inch RGBW LCD display that has a resolution of 1229k-dots. The new magnesium-alloy body of the D7100 is weather sealed and is lighter and narroer than it’s predecessor which makes it more easier to hold.
The Nikon D7100 would be available for retail sale starting March in the United States and would cost $1,200 (~Rs.65,000) for the body-only while it would cost $1,600 (~Rs.86,500) with the 18-105mm lens kit.
