Report : Samsung's Galaxy Gear Smartwatch To Launch On September 4th

Report : Samsung's Galaxy Gear Smartwatch To Launch On September 4th

SM-V100T2

Samsung had admitted that it is working on a smart watch, and we’ve seen evidence that it is going to take on the name Galaxy Gear. Now Bloomberg reports that Samsung’s long-rumored Galaxy Gear smartwatch is a “wristwatch-like smartphone” that will launch on September 4th. The news source specifically points to the Android-powered device being able to “make phone calls, surf the web, and handle emails.”
Whether the Galaxy Gear will be mainly a companion accessory to Samsung smartphones, or work with all Android devices, remains to be seen, but we’re betting the former. Since Samsung has such a huge lead in the Android market anyway, it wouldn’t do much harm to limit it to the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note family, and the Korean OEM could invoke private APIs for increased functionality.
Earlier this year, Sony debuted its SmartWatch 2, an improved version of the problematic timepiece from a couple of years ago. Though the SmartWatch 2 looks to be a huge improvement over the first generation model, it still tries to fit typical Android functionality onto a small screen. Samsung’s Galaxy Gear needs to make Android invisible in order to be effective, while retaining the information- and customization-dense nature of the operating system. Similarly, Samsung would do well to ensure optimal battery life, either by using a low-power OLED display (perhaps of the flexible variety) or, like Pebble, an e-paper variant.
The device will be unveiled Sept. 4, two days before the IFA consumer electronics show begins in Berlin, one of the people said, asking not to be identified because the plans are private.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Specs Leak, 5.68-Inch 1080p HD Display

Samsung asked us to ‘note” September 4th on our calendars last week. This is when we can expect them to officially unveil the Galaxy Note 3, a follow-up to the original Galaxy Note and the Note II phablet. A new report from reputable site SamMobile has revealed a bevy of new specs.
Depending on the country release, the Galaxy Note 3 will have a couple model numbers – SM-N900 & SM-N9005 – and sport the following specs: 5.68-inch full HD Super AMOLED (1920 x 1080 resolution, 1.8GHz Octa-core Exynos 5420 processor, 3GB RAM, 13MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), LTE connectivity, 16/32/64GB internal storage (64GB will be rare) plus a microSD slot, 3,200 mAh battery and running Android OS 4.3 Jelly Bean. No insight into any new S-Pen features.
Samsung announced at the end of July it had started mass production of low power, 3GB LPDDR3 RAM for mobile, and devices using it would appear during the second half of 2013.
The latest leak also hints that Samsung will launch more than one variants of its Galaxy Note 3, similar to the international and U.S. editions of the Galaxy S4 from earlier this year. This is consistent with previous rumors.
There’s no word on the availability, pricing, or colours, but Samsung will show off the Galaxy Note 3 at the upcoming Samsung Mobile Unpacked event during the IFA in Berlin.

BlackBerry 9720 Announced, Runs BlackBerry OS 7.1

BlackBerry 9720 Announced, Runs BlackBerry OS 7.1

bb

During the BlackBerry Q1 2014 conference call, BlackBerry CEO, Thorsten Heins let it be known a new BlackBerry 7.1 device would be released soon and after many sneek peeks at it in unofficial capacity, the time has come to make it all official. The BlackBerry 9720 has finally been announced and will be making its way to Asia, EMEA and Latin America in the coming weeks.
As its new BlackBerry 10 operating system struggles to get off the ground, the company is still depending on the old version 7. During its last fiscal quarter BlackBerry shipped 6.8 million smartphones, but only 2.7 million phones running the new OS.
The launch of the BlackBerry 9720, which runs a refreshed version of the BlackBerry 7 OS, may play to the company’s dwindling strength. The smartphone has a re-engineered physical QWERTY keyboard with a dedicated BBM key, a trackpad and a a 2.8-inch touchscreen with 480 x 360 pixel resolution. It has 512MB of RAM.
The BlackBerry 9720 also has a 5-megapixel camera and an FM radio. Connectivity options include HSPA, 802.11n and A-GPS. The phone is packed with a 1450mAH removable battery, which is claimed to offer up to 7 hours of talktime and 18 days of standby time.
On the software side, BlackBerry has focused on social networking features. Users can write a message once and post it simultaneously to their friends on BBM, Twitter and Facebook, for example.
The updated interface also lets users swipe to unlock the phone or access the camera from the lock screen, among other enhancements.
Currently there is no indication of pricing or availability in India, but stay tuned for more information.

Report : Windows 8.1 Will Launch In October

Report : Windows 8.1 Will Launch In October

Windows-8.1-600x411

The latest version of Microsoft Windows, Windows 8.1, will not be available to the public until October, according to reports.
A preview of the first major update to operating system has been available since June, and Microsoft is said to be now testing near-final versions of new OS.
Windows 8.1 includes a number of concessions for desktop users, as well as new features for the modern interface. Users will be able to boot straight to the desktop, disable modern-style “hot corners” and access key desktop functions by right-clicking on the newly-restored Start button. The modern interface includes major improvements to built-in apps, the ability to use three apps side-by-side, overhauled Bing search and more. The net effect is that it’s easier to stay on the desktop if you want, but not unthinkable to switch to the modern UI.
We already know that the upgraded operating system Windows 8.1 will run Internet Explorer 11, the new version of the web browser which Microsoft have claimed is “fast, fluid and perfect for touch,” providing “the best web experience across the full range of Windows devices and screen sizes”.
Windows 8.1 will also allow users to circumvent the ‘Live tile’ interface built for touch screens and go directly to the desktop mode. And there will be direct support for 3D printers – signalling a hope that the new technology will become mainstream in the near future.
A number of tutorials and explanatory menus will be added to the operating system, Microsoft said, to help users adjust to the updates.

Nokia Lumia Update – SMS + Call filter

Nokia Lumia Update – SMS + Call filter

Nokia has rolled out an update that will add the SMS and Call filter functionality on the Nokia Lumia handsets running on the Windows phone 8 OS.  This feature will allow Lumia users to block unwanted calls and SMS’s.
The update will be available via windows phone store (extras and info app). Lumia 1020, Lumia 925 and Lumia 625 will initially get the update and followed by the other models running WP8. To block a number all that the user need to do is tap and hold until they get the options. There a block number option, once taped the number will be blocked. Users will no longer get the calls or SMS’s from the blocked numbers.
There is also an option to unblock if need be. So far users were using a third party app for the same and now it comes built in. There is the live tile option too wherein users can view the number that was recently blocked. It is a good option especially for avoiding unwanted calls (marketing / credit cards / Insurance etc).

The update is being rolled out slowly and probably within few days all of the WP8 handsets will get the call + SMS filter update option.

Wammy Passion Z+ review – 5 inch FHD with 1.5GHz turbo chipset

Wammy Passion Z+ review – 5 inch FHD with 1.5GHz turbo chipset

Wickedleak Wammy Passion Z+ is upgraded Passion Z with 5 inch screen with FHD resolution, powered by MT6589T processor @ 1.5GHz, 13MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, dual SIM and 2500 mAh battery. The handset is a better option than the Wammy Passion Z.
Wammy Passion Z+ is an upgraded version of the Passion Z. It is the same handset with exact features, the only difference is the chipset that has been upgraded from 1.2GHz MT6589 to 1.5GHz MT6589T (Turbo). The Z+ is priced at Rs. 15,999 and the older version for Rs. 14,990.
Passion Z+ Box pack
The packing is the same, as mentioned it’s the same Passion Z handset with chipset upgrade. Inside the box there is the handset, screen guard, USB data cable, travel charger and 2500 mAh battery. There is no earphones included.
Wammy passion Z+ review
The handset looks good, premium design and light weight. It is a dual SIM handset and SIM slot 1 is micro SIM. The Z+ weight is 139 grams with battery and thickness is 9.70mm and 11.34 with the lens that is bulging out a bit. Breadth is 69.37mm and Length is 141.13mm. The built quality is good, handset is comfortable and feels really light. However there are small gaps on the rear side where the back cover clips with the handset (check the video review).
The OGS screen is 5 inches with 1920×1080 pixels resolution (440.58 ppi). Screen is scratch resistant to minimal extent, it’s better to use a screen guard for added protection. There is no issue with the touch and viewing angle is really good. There is accelerometer, proximity, light, magnetic and gyro sensors.
wammy passion z+ box pack
OTG is supported; I could connect my pen drive and could browse the content using an OTG cable. 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi worked well without issues and I got the GPS lock in less than 20 seconds. Sound is loud and clear. Phone features worked well.
wammy passion z+ review
The Wammy Passion Z+ is powered by 1.5GHz MT6589T processor with PowerVR SGX 544 MP. Z+ runs on the Android 4.2.1 OS. The RAM is 1GB and internal storage is 4GB. The camera quality is the same as on the Passion Z. You can check the sample images attached in this article. The camera is auto focus and there is LED flash for low light conditions. Full HD video recording (30fps) and playback is supported.
wammy passion z+ 13MP rear AF camera
As far as Gaming is concerned I tried the Dead Trigger game that worked pretty well, you can check the brief game play in the review video. I had shot this video a day before I got the iBerry Nucela N1 for review. I did not not get the chance to download and install the heavy games like Nova 3 and the MC4, but looking at the issues the iBerry N1 (with same MT6589T chipset) had I will get the handset again and try out the same games on the Z+ so stay tuned for the gaming review of passion Z+ coming soon.
The battery of 2500 mAh gives a decent backup time of up to 27 hours with moderate usage. The handset does get warm when playing games or using heavy apps.
Verdict
The Passion Z+ (that is a Ocean X7 re-branded model) is with MT6589T processor which is slightly better than the 1.2GHz MT6589 chipset. The Z+ is available for 15,999 it is Rs. 1000 more than its predecessor and a better option since the price difference is not much.

Apple's Next iPhone event slated for September 10th

Apple's Next iPhone event slated for September 10th

iphone5pfblackwpodsprint

Apple’s next big game changing event is slated for 10th of September if AllThingsD are to be believed. The next editions of the iPhone are slated to have 4.7 and 5.7 inch display and a cheaper variant popularly known as the plastic clad – iPhone 5C.
It is also easy to assume that iOS7 will be pushed out to all the remaining iPhones officially around that very time. iPod Lovers can expect an iPod refresh ranging from a new iPod Shuffle all the way over to a iPod touch to match the dimensions of the next iPhone.
If the event is anything like last years, then an iPad refresh might be on the table, with a new iPad mini with retina display and a new iPad 5.

Report : Blackberry Set To Follow Dell And Go Private

Report : Blackberry Set To Follow Dell And Go Private

The latest rumour to circle about BlackBerry is not a new smartphone, but that the company is entertaining the idea of going private. Reuters “several sources familiar with the situation” revealed that the board is favouring this route and believe being a private company “would give them breathing room to fix its problems out of the public eye.” The company noted in the report is private equity firm Silver Lake Partners, same company who’s behind Dell’s current private dealings, but they make it clear that “no deal is imminent” and “BlackBerry has not launched any kind of a sale process.”
The message from BlackBerry’s communications department has been pretty consistent regarding its recent quarterly performance, as well as issues like layoffs and executive departures – the company is still in turnaround mode, and needs to make more changes to get the organization ship-shape before it can return to growth. But that’s not a refrain that investors enjoy hearing – especially not when the track’s on repeat.
Ever since Thorsten Heins, BlackBerry’s CEO, took over the reins he stated that the company was not for sale, but could potentially look at licensing BlackBerry 10 to other manufactures. In an interview last year Heins stated “We don’t have the economy of scale to compete against the guys who crank out 60 handsets a year. We have to differentiate and have a focused platform. To deliver BB10 we may need to look at licensing it to someone who can do this at a way better cost proposition than I can do it. There’s different options we could do that we’re currently investigating.”
BlackBerry’s openness to consider a deal marks a radical shift in thinking at the once high-flying smartphone maker. Until recently, BlackBerry, formerly known as Research in Motion and a pioneer in providing secured emails on handheld devices, had been bent on staying independent, betting its turnaround on its latest smartphones.
BlackBerry reported 6.8 million smartphone shipments last quarter and revenues of $3.1 billion, but also recorded an operating loss of $84 million.

New Nexus 7 Reportedly Suffering From Dodgy GPS

New Nexus 7 Reportedly Suffering From Dodgy GPS

nexus-7

Google recently launched their new Nexus 7 tablet, and now a number of owners of the tablet have reported issues with GPS.
It seems that some owners of the NExus 7 have been having issues with the GPS system on the device, with the feature working ok for a short time before suddenly stopping. The device then reverts to the searching mode with the GPS icon continually flashing, and some owners have stated that a hard reboot sometimes does the trick but not always.
Some have changed the device for another one for the problem still to occur so it seems the bug is being caused by an issue with the Android 4.3 firmware, and we have already heard of issues with the software affecting other Nexus devices.
If it’s an issue with the Android code, a simple firmware update could squash the bug. If the problem lies with the GPS hardware, the only solution could be to send off for a replacement Nexus 7.
Apparently, Google has acknowledged this and are currently is working on a fix, but we are unsure when this come about. Comments on this situation can be seen over on the Google Product Forums, along with other problems encountered with the GPS signal, while others have said that rebooting the system can sometimes sort this issue out as reported above.

WhatsApp introduces one-press voice texting, to be rolled out on all operating systems in 24 hours

WhatsApp introduces one-press voice texting, to be rolled out on all operating systems in 24 hours

The company announced the availability of this new feature while announcing that it has now hit the 300 million monthly active users mark.
Instant messaging service WhatsApp has rolled out an update that lets you now send voice texts by just pressing one button.
The company announced the availability of this new feature while announcing that it has now hit the 300 million monthly active users mark. They garnered a whopping 50 million new active users in just 2 months.

With this new feature, you can record and send voice clips with one press of the mic icon.
According to a report in AllThingsD, WhatsApp users now send 11 billion messages and receive 20 billion messages per day - up from 27 billion total in June.
WhatsApp has began rolling out voice messaging for all of its apps, on iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia.
Simple and easy
What's interesting about this feature is that it is simple with less taps on the screen to get the job done.

You just press the record button to record your message and let go of the mic icon once ur done to send the message.
If you decide not to send the message then you just swipe to the left to delete the recording.
There is no time length limit when recording a message therefore users can get as creative as they want.

Another interesting feature is that the playback of a voice text will automatically switch from handset's speakers to its earpiece when the device is held to your ear.
The mic icon also turns blue when recipients have listened to the message

Feature available in 24 hours
In the report it is also mentioned that WhatsApp with its strength of just 45 employees will push the new voice feature simultaneously on all its platforms and will make it available to all users within 24 hours.

Facebook and WeChat already have the voice texting feature but what's interesting about Whatsapp is its one press voice text feature.
Siddhartha Bhavsaar, a businessman and an active user of WhatsApp from Mumbai is quite happy with the update, " I hate typing. Voice messaging will be so much easier and fun!"
One of the last useful update rolled out by WhatsApp was to allow its users to send batches of photos in one go.
Divya Saboo, a mass media graduate from UPG College of Management in Mumbai feels that the realms of conversation has increased ten-folds. " With family, you normally conversate in your regional language. With voice text now on WhatsApp I can easily communicate with my mother who does not know English effectively."
Rahil Shaikh, a design proffessional does not really think it makes much of a difference. "To voice chat, I will call the person. Why would I voice text and then wait for a reply on WhatsApp. The app is great for free texting and group chats, but there is no need for voice text."
This feature does not need the app updated and will automatically appear on your device once it is rolled out.
Wonder if 'instant video' is the next update from WhatsApp. We can only wait and hope.

Make your own apps with Microsoft's Windows Phone App Studio

Make your own apps with Microsoft's Windows Phone App Studio

t
Imagine you have an idea for an app, but you don’t have the relevant coding skills to make the app. Well, now you can give birth to your idea in the form of a Windows Phone app, because Microsoft has come up with an ingenious web-based tool called the Windows Phone App Studio that strives to do exactly that.
Of course, Microsoft is doing this in part to propel the Windows Phone app ecosystem that lags behind Android and iOS, nevertheless, this is a nice and simple way of promoting more development. The App Studio has been designed in such a way that one can create an app by applying text, web content, imagery, and design concepts to any one of a rich set of customizable templates.
To start things off, one needs to log in to their Microsoft account, and choose a template and add the content. When the app is ready, one can download the app on their phone. It goes without saying that one should test out the app on a single device before publishing it. To make this happen, Microsoft is also simplifying the developer phone registration process and any developer can register one phone and load up to two apps.
Registered developers can unlock three phones for app testing that have the ability to load up to ten apps. To publish a new app one will need a dev centre account and for that Redmond is now offering a limited offer for registering for just $19 as a part of a ‘Summer Break’ program that will last till August 26.

With G2, LG gets its mini-Galaxy S4 moment

With G2, LG gets its mini-Galaxy S4 moment

LG has made solid progress in the smartphone market, but still lacks a breakout hit. The company hopes the G2 will garner some much-needed hype.

(Credit: Dan Graziano/CNET)
Will the LG G2's splashy launch mark its first step toward Galaxy S4-like world domination?
LG certainly hopes so and has banked heavily on its latest super smartphone to finally give the company a global blockbuster it is so desperately seeking. The Korean electronics giant has been steadily building up the hype for the device, releasing videos, promoting the event through digital ads (including on this site), and making it known that its next flagship smartphone is just around the corner.
The event today -- which thankfully omitted the overly dramatic theatrics of Samsung's GS4 debut, but did feature a curious spotlight on a single Vienna Boys' choir singer at the end -- was designed to convey the impression that the G2 belongs among the big boys in the smartphone industry. The company positioned it as the ideal phone designed for the user.
"Technology without empathy can no longer be considered innovation," LG mobile CEO Jong-Seok Park said during the event on Wednesday. "Innovation for the sake of innovation is old school."
LG, which has long lived in the shadow of larger rival Samsung Electronics, desperately wants its G2 to be uttered in the same breath as the GS4 or Apple's iPhone 5. The company has a reputation for building affordable and solid -- if unspectacular -- smartphones, but wants more. It's not enough that LG is the brand customers go to because it offers a nice value; it wants to be the brand customers aspire to own.
Such is the dilemma for every smartphone vendor not named Apple or Samsung. While the two leaders benefit from a certain level of built-in hype, the other players continue to clamor for the constantly shifting attention of the consumer.
For many, the quest for smartphone relevancy has resulted in continued losses, but it's here that LG differs. In the second quarter, the company saw a 34.5 percent increase in revenue as it swung back into profitability. LG shipped a record 12 million smartphones in the period.
LG also saw its second-quarter market share rise to 5.1 percent, from 3.7 percent a year ago -- good enough to rank it as No. 3 in the world, according to IDC.
LG is looking for a fresh start with the G2. The company said in July that it was dropping the Optimus name, instead relying on the simpler G2 as the follow-up to its flagship Optimus G from last year. (The Optimus name remains as its brand for mass-market smartphones.) Whereas the Optimus G was an exclusive smartphone at AT&T, the G2 will get broader support from multiple carriers.
LG is the latest to hop aboard the trend of offering a single flagship device across multiple carrier partners, a strategy that has been successfully employed by Samsung, Apple, and HTC.
Broad distribution, of course, won't guarantee sales. If you're not Apple or Samsung, you need to try harder to get noticed. The HTC One stood out for its all-metal construction and sexy design, while Nokia's Lumia 1020 is known for its massive 41MP camera. Even then, there's no guarantee for success.
With the G2, LG crammed in an impressive amount of high-end specifications, including a Qualcomm 2.26GHz quad-core processor, 13MP optical image stabilization camera, a 3,000mAh battery supposedly able to last 1.2 days, and a large 5.2-inch high-definition IPS display.
The G2, however, uses a cheaper-feeling plastic construction at a time when most of its competitors have moved to metal.
Aside from improved specs, the marked difference is LG's decision to place the power and volume buttons on the back of the device, just under the center rear camera. It's a controversial choice that LG said came about from researching how people hold their phones. Still, it's unclear whether consumers will embrace this subtle, but radical, shift.
"It's different, which is saying something, when so many devices, especially the ones running Android, all seem to look the same," said Ovum analyst Jan Dawson. "But it's risky in a flagship."
LG needed to do something to stand out. The company's dilemma continues to be its reputation as a serviceable -- but unsexy -- brand.
"The huge difference between Samsung and LG in the U.S. is that when you talk to normal people about Samsung, they'll mention the Galaxy brand, but when you talk to them about LG they'll talk about TVs and refrigerators," Dawson said.
The company hit its high point a few years ago in the mobile business by supplying slick basic phones -- noteworthy for phone brands such as the "Chocolate" -- but was slow to jump on to the Android bandwagon when it took off.

Samsung had been similarly slow, but made up for it with a slew of products and the might of its massive marketing engine. LG doesn't have the luxury of throwing truckloads of marketing dollars to promote a device and has had to get by on the strength of its phones and more subtle promotional efforts.
LG at least sounds like it is taking its flagship aspirations seriously. The company is mimicking the strategy of other vendors and focusing all of its resources behind the G2.
"This is it for us for 2013," LG representative Ken Hong told CNET.
Hong declined to talk about how much it would spend on the G2, but acknowledged that LG wouldn't be able to spend at the same level as Samsung. Instead, LG will focus on digital and social marketing and attempt to build a grassroots movement to raise awareness for the phone.
"We don't worry about what we can't do," he said. "We worry about what we can do."
LG needs to go through the same transformation that Samsung has gone through over the past few years. But such a process doesn't come without great cost. Hong said the smartphone battle isn't a sprint, and the ones that will survive are the ones with a sustainable long-term strategy.
The company is hoping the G2 debut, which in some ways mimicked Samsung's launch events, will drum up a little hype as consumers opt to look for new phones in the critical back-to-school and holiday shopping seasons.
"We're happy we're even in the top three," he said. "It's such a competitive industry, to be even in the same list with some of these other brands just shows we're still relevant."

Lenovo launches a slew of Android and Windows 8 tablets in India

Lenovo launches a slew of Android and Windows 8 tablets in India

Lenovo is considered to be one the top PC vendors in India. Its Windows portfolio is top notch, but when one talks about its Android offerings then it comes up short. Today, the company launched a slew of tablets that run both on Android and Windows 8 in India. The products launched include the Android based A1000, A3000 and S6000 Android tablets and the Windows 8 based ThinkPad Tablet 2 and IdeaPad Lynx K3011.
The A1000 is a low cost tablet that costs Rs 8,999. While it runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, it has a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz from MediaTek and has a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels. Lenovo touts its pocket studio surround sound that incorporates Dolby technology. It has front facing speakers for better audio. Additionally, it packs 16GB of internal memory along with a microSD card slot that supports up to 32GB of storage.
The A3000 is also a 7-inch tablet, but it also supports voice calling and an option HSPA+ model can also be had. It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and has a quad-core MediaTek CPU clocked at 1.2GHz. The 7-inch screen utilises IPS technology and has a resolution of 1024×600 pixels. There is no word on internal memory but it has a microSD card slot that supports up to 64GB of storage. It costs Rs 16,000.
Lenovo also had a 10-inch offering in the S6000 tablet. This is more of high-end product that strives to take on the iPad. At Rs 27,000 though it does not offer exactly cutting edge specs. It is powered by a quad-core MediaTek CPU clocked at 1.2GHz and has a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. The company claims that it can last for 8 hours on a single charge and a HSPA+ version is also available.
Perhaps the most interesting product of the lot is the Windows 8 powered ThinkPad Tablet 2. It has a stylus, a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1368×768 pixels and is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom CPU clocked at 1.8GHz. It also combines 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage and has USB ports as well. It can be bought with a fantastic Bluetooth keyboard that has trademark ThinkPad like keys, but at Rs 50,000 it’s definitely expensive.
Lastly, Lenovo has also launched the IdeaPad Lynx. Like the ThinkPad Tablet 2 it runs on Windows 8 and is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom processor clocked at 1.8GHz and has 2GB of RAM. Internally, it also has 64GB of memory, but this product is a hybrid, which means that its tablet module can be detached from the keyboard dock. It has a larger 11.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1368×768 pixels. It costs Rs 51,990.

Infosys faces class action suit over 'hiring bias'

Infosys faces class action suit over 'hiring bias'

Infosys faces class action suit

nfosys's visa troubles in the United States just got worse. An American citizen has accused the Indian IT company of discrimination against Americans in its hiring practices and has filed a class action complaint against the company.

Brenda Koehler, in a complaint filed by her attorney on August 1 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, claims her job application with the company was rejected on flimsy grounds and Infosys, instead, employed a Bangladeshi national for the position she had applied for.

The lawsuit states that Infosys' hiring policies and conduct are in violation of Title VII of the United States's Civil Rights Act.

"Infosys has engaged in systematic, company-wide discrimination against individuals based upon their national origin. Specifically, Infosys has discriminated against individuals who are not of South Asian descent," the lawsuit states. "The company employs more than 15,000 individuals in the United States and approximately 90 per cent of these employees are of South Asian descent, including individuals of Indian, Nepalese, and Bangladeshi descent. Infosys has reached this grossly disproportionate workforce by directly discriminating against individuals who are not of South Asian origin."

The lawsuit mentions that Koehler, an IT professional since 1996, applied for a position of "Lead VMware/Windows Administrator" with Infosys in April 2012. However, after a 45-minute interview, an Infosys representative stated that she had no experience in 'Active Directory'.

ALSO FROM THE AUTHOR: Indian IT firms need to guard against class action suits

"While the job posting indicated that VMware would be the primary role for the position, Infosys's representatives spent a considerable amount of time asking about other subjects, including DNS and Active Directory. Koehler has experience in those areas and explained to Infosys's representative that she had considerable experience, including explaining the particular types of work she had performed," the lawsuit states.

Now, track your cell phone with Google Android

Now, track your cell phone with Google Android

Google Andriod

Soon after a Kiwi entrepreneur developed a novel smartphone app that can monitor users' outdoor activities and ensure they get home safe, Google has come out with a new tool that will let users track their lost Android phones on a map. Not just track, the user can even ring and remotely erase all the data on the phone.
Apple, Microsoft and BlackBerry have been offering online utilities, namely Find My iPhone, BlackBerry Protect, and Find My Phone, respectively, that let owners of phones track the location of their handsets, lock them, trigger an alarm and wipe data remotely, for a long time. Google is late to the party. However, making the utility a part of Android would benefit a large number of users. Handset makers like Samsung and HTC already offer similar tools with their Android phones – yes, Google did not offer the same on its own phones! Sony had also started rolling out its remote security service "my Xperia," in July.
While third-party services offered by companies like McAfee, Norton, Quickheal and Kaspersky, among others also offer mobile security services, they charge users for the service.
In a post on the official Google blog, Benjamin Poiesz, an Android project manager, wrote, "Android Device Manager can help (you)... keep your device and the data you store inside your phone safe and secure."
Android Device Manager will allow users to make their misplaced phone ring at its loudest volume even if it is in silent mode. However, users will be able to do this through Android Device Manager, website though Google said that it would also offer an Android app for the service at a later date.
In case you have lost your phone outside your house you will be able to see the device on a map if it is switched on and follow it in real-time. It may help you recover the phone. But in case it can't be recovered, Android Device Manager will allow users to wipe it securely so that the private data doesn't fall in wrong hands.

Is Samsung over clocking Galaxy S4 GPU to improve benchmark performance?

Is Samsung over clocking Galaxy S4 GPU to improve benchmark performance?

A technology website ‘AnandTech’ has found that the Samsung Galaxy S4 benchmark scores were better when compared with its competitor on certain benchmark apps. The site claims that the GPU on the S4 ran at higher MHz.
AnandTech site reported that the Galaxy S4 GPU was optimized to perform well by running at a higher speed of 533 MHz instead of the standard 480 MHz on certain benchmark application. But in the real world one would find no difference between the S4 and its competitors, in fact S4 lagged on many occasions.
Samsung however have denied these allegations and have started that the max GPU frequency set on the Galaxy S4 is indeed 533 MHz. But in most cases the GPU runs on 480 MHz, specially in gaming mode so as not to cause an overload and the max frequency of 533 MHz (at times) is achieved when the app is using full screen mode such as camera, video player, S Browser etc and in certain Benchmark apps as per the demand.
Samsung also clarified that the GPU is optimized for optimal user experience and not to improve benchmark results.  The interesting part is that the Exynos Chipset is developed and manufactured by Samsung Electronics and the same is used on other international models, however S4 gets 11% boost in Benchmark performance.
