Joining the bandwagon of Firefox OS running devices, Alcatel has unveiled the One Touch Fire at the Mobile World Congress. Just like the earlier leaked ZTE Open, Alcatel One Touch Fire too is an entry-level smartphone.
The Alcatel One Touch Fire comes with a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display and is powered by a 1GHz processor paired with just 256MB of RAM. The design of the Alcatel One touch Fire is based on the Keon developer preview Firefox OS phone, which was announced last month.
The Firefox OS running smartphone from Alcatel would house a 3.2 megapixel camera at the back and would come with 512MB of internal storage, which can be further expanded using a micro-SD card. The connectivity options on the upcoming Alcatel One Touch Fire would include WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS and 3G and the smartphone also packs-in a 1,400mAh battery
There is no world on the pricing and availability of the smartphone as of now, but Mozilla is trying to tap on the emerging markets with the new OS and says that the first markets to get it’s phones would include- Brazil, Colombia, Hungary, Mexico, Montenegro, Poland, Serbia, Spain, and Venezuela.
By launching the smartphones in emerging markets where the entry and mid-level devices are more popular, Mozilla would try and hope to dent the sales of smartphones running on Android OS and later, venture into a high-end smartphone to take on the like of iPhone and other high-end Android devices.
