Facebook’s Q4 results show impressive numbers: Over 1 Billion Monthly Users, $1.59B Revenue
Facebook has reported it’s financial
results for fourth quarter of 2012 and they show a total revenue of
$1.585 billion, which is an increase of about 40 percent as compared to
2011, when the revenue was about $1.131 billion during the same period.
The Q4 2012 revenue for Facebook exceeded the Wall Street’s
expectations, which had predicated a revenue of about $1.53 billion for
the social networking giant.
One of the biggest highlights of this
quarters earnings was the fact that 23 percent of the total ad revenue
of $1.33 billion came from mobile ads, which is a significant increase
from the previous quarter, when the mobile ad revenue was just 14
percent of the total revenue. This should be quite a relief for
Facebook’s investors, who have time and again showed concern over
Facebook’s ability to make money through smartphones and tablets.
Another important thing to note here is
the sharp increase in expenses from the California based company.
Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said that the company plans
to spend heavily on hiring talent in 2013 as it focuses on it’s
long-term growth rather than short-term profits. The company also says
that the year 2013 will be a year of “significant investments”.
Facebook has posted other interesting
numbers as well, and said that the website has over 1.06 billion Monthly
Active Users (MAUs) as of December 31, 2012 and an average of 618
million Daily Active Users (DAUs) for the month of December 2012. More
importantly, the number of Mobile Monthly Active Users for Facebook
stood at 680 million as of December 31, 2012. One of the most
significant aspects of the results is the fact that the number of mobile
DAUs exceeded the number of web DAUs for the first time during this
quarter.
